IFG Meeting Report for Sunday 21 06 20

ASHLEY CHURCH, one of the founders of the ISRAEL INSTITUTE OF NEW ZEALAND spoke informatively about the attitude of politicians, the media and the public, in particular in New Zealand but also internationally. His slides included a walk through the history of each group with News headlines and actions taken, such as New Zealands 'rogue' sponsoring of UN Resolution 2334 against Israel. Clearly he keeps excellent records and shared insights that many attending were not yet familiar with. His evidence showed a downward curve in NZ politicians attitudes, with some very disquieting trends that need to be resisted.

Ashley observed the negative and misleading treatment of Israel by media generally, which we are all aware of, but also noted that the public has been slow to buy into the media narrative, with a large proportion still supporting Israel. His grasp of the geopolitical perspectives as they apply to New Zealand was refreshing and informative. The question time which followed was also most useful.

During afternoon tea we were also treated to a talk by Elliot Ikilei of the New Conservative party (NC Takanini), who elaborated their steadfast policies with respect to Israel. His offsider for Mangere, Fuiavailili Ala'ilima (see https://www.newconservative.org.nz/candidates ). and Elliot also stayed behind and answered many questions - no one was leaving early :).

All in all a very informative and productive meeting, with more than the usual networking going on.
